An essential part of the city’s cultural and gastronomic life, the adjacent Roma and Condesa neighborhoods are home to Mexico City’s trendy creative class. The area overflows with diverse dining options and alluring nightlife possibilities, as well as varying architectural styles and bold design. A century ago, when La Romita was a wealthy town of grand mansions, no one would have guessed that by the turn of the millennium, it would home to Mexico City’s  hipsters. These days, its neoclassic, beaux arts and art nouveau-style buildings, squares and tree-lined boulevards abound with restaurants, galleries, bars, foodies, artists, eclectic bed and breakfasts and more. In September 2017 an earthquake impacted Roma and Condesa, Mexico City’s most beloved colonias. After, local artists, architects, designers, chefs and residents have worked to restore and revitalize the area, making them more compelling destinations than ever before.

The modern two-story addition stands just beyond the original home and is a geometric combination of glass and steel where the other four monochromatic suites, Rosa, Amarilla, Azul and Verde, are found. The palette was inspired by Ignacia’s memories of growing up in the town of Guerrero. Inside the former estate, the palette is restrained to pale pink-colored walls, which truly allows the custom furnishings, lighting and artisanal objects chosen by interior designer Andrés Gutiérrez to shine.

The historic building joins public spaces, including the lobby, reception, library, dining room, and kitchen, directly to the master suite, La Habitación Negra. In a completely new building, the other four suites, La Azul, La Verde, La Rosa and La Amarilla, are arranged one on top of the other on the central patio with individual balconies or terraces. Each has a unique color scheme, and rooms have their own specific ambience that works in harmony with the complex. The interior furniture blends traditional, past and contemporary, including designs by Eileen Grey, Eero Saarinen, Serge Mouille, Sean Dix, and James Tan.

A place where Mexican Design, handcraft and coziness finds a perfect mix, the service is unbelievable, the breakfast is insane, you can find perfection in any corner of the house. Staff were very accommodating with my questions and extended stay. The house was spacious, clean, and everything seemed fairly new.

This charming tree-lined neighborhood, filled with a mix of Neoclassical, Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture, is the setting for Alfonso Cuarón’s latest movie, the critical darling Roma. Located on Jalapa Street, one of these historic gems is the Ignacia Guest House, which was our home away from home for five nights. The stylish boutique hotel takes its name from its former beloved housekeeper Ignacia, who lived and worked at the house for more than 70 years. Blending history and Mexican artisan tradition with contemporary design, Ignacia Guest House is a dazzling, multifaceted jewel only the smartest travelers know. We are named after, and work to honor, Ignacia, who for over 70 years was the housekeeper of this 1913 casona, or estate house. Our 61 spacious guest rooms provide you with a comfortable retreat in a casual, California-style setting.

That’s where her friends Jorge and Beto live and run a cooking school, Casa Jacaranda, which I’d recently seen featured in Bon Appétit. Mexico City has no shortage of gorgeous, design-driven boutique hotels—and in the Roma neighborhood, they're as common as the streetside al pastor spits being shaved onto tortillas. So when I rolled my suitcase up to Ignacia Guest House earlier this year I was pleasantly pleased with myself. A friend had booked us in one of those design-driven boutique hotels in the Roma neighborhood. But standing on the leafy street, looking up at the deep gray and teal facade, a budding jacaranda tree drooping lazily over the roof, I noticed there was a stillness to this place, a quietness rather than a buzz. And then I saw the owner, Gina Lozada, and despite the fact that we’d never met or even spoken before, there she was, welcoming me with a hug and showing me into her home.

The attention to detail was impeccable - everything we needed was thoughtfully provided for. The design of the rental was beautiful and had a lovely, cozy atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The terrace was a definite highlight, providing a great space to relax and soak up the sunshine.

The property is non-smoking and is situated 7 km from Venice Beach Boardwalk. Situated in Los Angeles, 2.8 km from LA Memorial Coliseum and 3.4 km from Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Private Guesthouse - Los Angeles offers a garden and air conditioning. The property has garden views and is 4.1 km from California Science Center and 7.7 km from Staples Center.

For 70 years, she dedicated her devotion to the house, and became part of it. Her imprint is still alive in the building; as a character of Pita Amor, Ignacia enjoyed the house as her own and in the end, practically it was – she knew every last corner and administered to it with rigorous discipline. She planted two orange trees in the garden that she crossed thousands of times. With the recent buzz from this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Director, Alfonso Cuaron’s love story to his hometown of Colonia Roma hit center stage in the internationally acclaimed movie, Roma. Located just a few blocks from the house where Roma was filmed, Ignacia Guest House is an exclusive bed and breakfast with five suites blending history, Mexican artisan tradition and contemporary design. Opening its doors in February 2017, the name is derived from the housekeeper who looked after this 1913 casona for over 70 years, Ignacia.

But travel is so much more than just ticking sites off your itinerary. To fully appreciate the places you explore, you should have a better understanding of its history, food, religion, folklore, arts and crafts — and of course the weird and wonderful customs and subcultures found around the world. We struck up a conversation with Magda Navarrete, another one of Ignacia’s managers, who asked if we’d be interested in trying a local snack. When she returned from the kitchen, she had a small ramekin filled with crispy, salted chapulines, or grasshoppers.

With content provided by a consortium of the most esteemed and talented writers in the luxury and travel industry, Luxe Beat offers an uncommon perspective. The courtyard patio was also where we returned in the evening to enjoy cocktails and snacks at the bar. A Nespresso machine sat atop the dresser and we were told that the television is set up with Netflix, a nice feature we didn’t bother to use.
