For those guests looking to enjoy a drink after a long day of exploring, I recommend trying a new bar or lounge each night of a cruise. This will ensure that passengers see all that is offered onboard and can sample some unique cocktails during their vacation. The main pool deck onboard the Norwegian Star looks great and is in excellent condition after the 2021 refurbishment. There is plenty of seating, both loungers and tables for guests to sit at and watch the ocean views. Aqua, one of two main dining venues on Norwegian Star seats 334 people and is located midship on deck 6.

However, if you are someone who likes to elevate their dining experience, I would recommend trying out one of these venues during your sailing. A Sail Away Inside stateroom guarantees an Inside stateroom or better! Grab a pint with some new friends at the outdoor Bier Garten on the terrace. Then head to the Wine Cellar on the Norwegian Star where you can sample a variety of vintages and purchase your favorites. Norwegian Star isn’t that large, sitting at only 91,74- gross register tonnage (GT). In 2018, as part of the Norwegian Edge program, the ship rebranded some of its restaurants and lounges, and also made some minor upgrades to suites and staterooms.

We did not see too many people using the main pool on our journey, largely due to the colder weather during our itinerary. There are many stateroom categories onboard that can help to accommodate many travelers' needs, desires, and budgets. We chose to dine at Ginza for our first night onboard and had a lot of fun trying out this special venue restaurant, as not all Norwegian Cruise Line ships feature a complimentary Asian restaurant. I was interested to see if Norwegian Star’s food and dining experience would be similar to Norwegian Sun’s. Instead, I found myself pleasantly surprised by just how good the food and dining options were onboard Norwegian Star, whereas I found the food onboard Norwegian Sun to be a bit lacking.
Staterooms and Suites
If you are traveling as a family with kids, I would recommend a larger room, like a balcony. We dined at Ginza, the included Chinese restaurant only twice over the 30 nights we were onboard the Norwegian Star on our back to back sailing. Versailles was my preference of the two as I preferred the decor and the service tended to be faster as a whole. Both Versailles and Aqua serve exactly the same menu each night and share a galley so the food for both restaurants is identical. My Dad was disappointed we didn’t have a comedian onboard on the first two legs of the cruise like there has previously been on other ships.

The Versailles dining room had a French theme and design flare that was modeled after the palace near Paris, whereas Aqua had a very modern aesthetic, reflective of a sophisticated restaurant. What were the staterooms like onboard Norwegian Star?
When it comes to activities onboard, the best resource for guests is the Freestyle Daily, which is Norwegian Cruise Line’s onboard ship schedule. Guests will all receive a complimentary printed copy of the Freestyle Daily in their staterooms each night of a cruise. Overall, there were so many things that I liked about Norwegian Star! This ship got many things right when it comes to cruising, and I appreciated that this ship far exceeded my expectations.
Versailles is the fancier of the two free restaurants onboard the Norwegian Star with an old-world Mary Antoinette vibe. The ceilings at the restaurant are high and the decor of the restaurant is regal and gold. A benefit to the larger ships is that you don’t need to book shows in advance. I really liked this as it meant you didn’t have to plan your schedule in advance. The entertainment on the ship was of a really high quality overall.
If you’re thirsty for a drink, you’ll find a range of bars and lounges aboard the ship, where entertainment is often served up alongside your favorite cocktails. Oceanview staterooms may not be as oceanview-y as you hope, though. The oceanview windows are quite small and may not show off as much of the scenery as you’d like. However, you will enjoy more space than you would in an interior room.
Deals were on roundtrips visiting Hawaii, Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Fanning Island.
